Information

Phosphorus: Type of mineral that has two types of forms, White Phosphorus and Red Phosphorus
Chemical Element: 15P
Where: Found in chemical compounds such as fertilizer, detergent, pesticides, and matches
Appearance: colorless, white, red, yellow, purple, black

Phosphate: A phosphoric acid and is what obtains phosphorus
Chemical Compound: PO43- 


Algae Bloom: Rapid increase of boom in algae population in an aquatic system
Where: Fresh Water, Marine Environments 
Caused by: Nutrient pollution of nitrogen, phosphates from agriculture, farming fertilizer, and cleaning products

Blue Green-Algae (Cyanobacteria): A bacteria that gets its energy from photosynthesis and is also known as "Pond Scum"
Appearance: blue/green, red/purple, green, brown, blue
Where: lakes, ponds, slow moving streams
Caused by: Phosphates like fertilizer that runs into water that is warm and has sun to produce a algae bloom in blue-green algae
Affects on Marine Life: Discolor the water, reduces light to the water, taste and oder problems, decreases oxygen, and toxic production. These all can effect the marine organisms that need light and oxygen to survive as well as effect people by making it undrinkable or indigestible.
